How to remove a photo background for free (no upload)
Step-by-step: remove the background from portraits and product photos with AI right in your browser, refine edges with a mask and export a transparent PNG.
Removing the background is one of the most common edits – for an online shop, a profile picture or a collage. ImageEdi does it with AI that runs on your own computer. The photo is never uploaded.
1. Open the photo
Open the editor and drop your photo into it. JPEG, PNG, WebP and other formats work.
2. Remove the background
In Image → AI choose Remove background – fast (portraits). On first use a small model (about 7 MB) downloads and is cached in your browser. A more accurate model for objects and animals is available on more powerful graphics cards.
3. Refine the edges
The background is not deleted – it is hidden by a layer mask. Take the brush (B): white reveals, black hides. A soft brush with low hardness helps with hair. You can always undo or delete the mask.
4. Save with transparency
Choose File → Export and the PNG or WebP format with Keep transparency enabled. For a shop you can pick a white background instead.
Tip: tricky objects
If the model misses your object, use the Object selection (AI) tool (W, second tool in the group): click the object, then Layer → Layer mask → Add mask from selection.
