How to remove an unwanted object or person from a photo

Three ways to remove distractions from a photo: the spot healing brush for small blemishes, the patch tool for larger areas and AI object removal for people or objects.

A tourist in the shot, wires in the sky, a blemish on skin – each problem has a fitting tool in ImageEdi.

Small things: spot healing brush

Choose the Spot healing brush (J) and paint over the blemish. The texture source is found automatically and colors blend with the surroundings. Ideal for spots, sensor dust or small marks.

Larger areas: patch

The Patch tool (J, same group): outline the bad area and drag the selection onto a clean area, such as clear sky. The texture is transferred and blends in.

Whole objects: AI removal

Select the object – fastest with the Object selection (AI) tool, or with the lasso with a small margin. Then choose Image → AI → Remove object in selection. The LaMa model fills in what was behind it. The model is about 200 MB and downloads only on first use.

Clone stamp for full control

For full control use the Clone stamp (S): Alt + click sets the source, then paint.
